When coming up with this idea for my final project, I knew that I wanted to make something for a plant for my dad. I knew I could easily incorporate recycled plastic containers to hold the plants. Then, I decided it would be a good idea to use the 3-D printer to make holders for the plastic containers the plants will go into. Then, I also need to make something to tie the project all together with two more machines. I chose to attach the 3-D holders to a back board of wood which I will use the laser to engrave a neat flower design onto it. Lastly, I will use the vinyl machine to add flower vinyl to the outside of the 3-D printed holders for extra decoration.
3-D printer:
Originally had a cylinder to just go around the plastic containers, then i added a piece to it so it can attach to my wood back board by a nail.
Here is the back of my 3-D printed holder which shows where the nail will fit in to hold the container. The plant containers will be held and attached to the wood board by the nail shown in the picture to the right.
Laser:
I added this design from google images to my wood board. I laser engraved it and flipped the symmetry so it will appear over both of my containers as if the vine flower design is coming out of the plant.
Here is what my board looks like after it was laser engraved. The nails are also in the board measured to fit both the containers on it evenly.
vinyl:
The final machine I used in my project is the vinyl cutter. I wanted to add a little more design to my containers and tie the project all together, so I added a purple vinyl flower to each of the containers!
FInal project:
Summary:
This was a great project to do because I got to use multiple machines, and use all my knowledge from the rest of the projects and semester to create something I was interested in making. It is cool to be able to say I made a project from my own ideas and completely from scratch. One new thing I learned on the laser is that in order to make the lines darker, all I have to do is run the machine twice.
