This is the design on Illustrator. I then next have to tell the program which designs I want cut out and which I want engraved. I chose to engrave the letters and cut out the corner designs which you can see in my next picture. I made sure to create outlines on my letters and "image trace" my designs. The lines I want engraved can stay black and the lines I want cut out I made red. I changed the line thickness to 0.0001, so it is hard to see the color from far away.
First in the innovation center I had to measure the thickness of the foam core material.
Here is my notepad cover printing.
This is the final cover printed on the left, and the right shows it all binded together as a finished product.
Water BOttle
The next project I completed was the water bottle. I made my design on Adobe Illustrator by using the text tool and choosing a font for my name. Then, the rest of the design I got off of google images and used the track shoe logo. The design in the middle is also from google images and it is a picture of the first four lanes of a track. I took my file in my flash drive down to the innovation center and engraved it on the laser by using the rotational jig.
This is my design on Illustrator. All the lines and letters are black so the laser will engrave them, not cut out. I created outlines on my letters. Once I finished my design, I rotated it 90 degrees.
Here is the water bottle in the rotational jig that I attached to the laser machine. I plugged it into the machine and adjusted the length of it to hold the water bottle. I pushed the red lever down to lock it in place.
This is my laser engraved final water bottle design from front and side angles.
3-D Box
The next project is my 3-D cardboard box. I got the box design on a website called BoxMaker. I typed in the dimensions to be 4x4x4.
You can't see the lines very well because they are 0.0001 stroke in red so the laser cuts them out.
This is zoomed in on the box so you can see the thin red lines.
In the innovation center I measured the thickness of the cardboard and laser printed it. This is the laser printing my 3-D box.
